2017 Citizen’s Police Academy

The Hinsdale Police Department is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for the 2017 Citizen’s Police Academy.  The dates and times for this course have not yet been established however; it is anticipated the course will begin in late spring.

The Citizens Public Safety Academy provides an exciting opportunity for community members to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of Public Safety. Students will learn from our public safety personnel on such topics as Patrol Procedures, Emergency Medicine, Criminal Investigations, Officer Safety, The Use of Deadly and Non-Deadly Force, Criminal Procedure, Computer Forensics, Weapons Safety, TASER, Body Cameras, and more. It is designed to give the participants an overview of the various aspects of the Hinsdale Department’s function and basic operational procedures.

There is no cost to students to participate in the Citizen’s Police Academy. Students will be certified in AED, Adult & Child CPR and Basic First Aid. This course may require some physically demanding activity as there will be hands-on training as well as simulated practical situations for the students to get a first-hand experience of law enforcement.

There will be a graduation dinner at the completion of the program and certificates issued to those who have met all requirements. Students must attend seven out of the eight weekly classes to successfully complete the program.

The Academy is eight- (8) consecutive weeks meeting one evening a week from 6:00-9:00 PM and three- (3) weekend courses meeting from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Locations and times may vary/change depending upon the course instruction. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • Live or work in the Hinsdale area.
  • No felony convictions, Assault or Domestic Violence (Misdemeanor or Felony) convictions.

A background check will be performed to confirm eligibility. Class size is limited to 20 participants. Acceptance is based upon qualifications and background. There is no cost to participate.
