Acting Chief Melissa Evans

Acting Chief Evans began her law enforcement career in 2009  with the Windham County Sheriff’s Office in the State of Vermont, spending 6 years assigned to patrolling the Town of Putney. Her time there helped her develop a strong work ethic centered around community policing and community engagement. Acting Chief Evans developed a strong skill set when it came to investigating crimes, specially financial crimes that effected vulnerable adults.  During her time with the Windham County Sheriff’s Office, she attained the rank of Sergeant. She joined the Hinsdale Police Department (HPD) in 2017 as a Detective and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in November 2019.  In October of 2022 she was presented with a Partner in Justice Award by Monadnock Center for Violence in recognition of outstanding efforts to support and assist survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and stalking.  She was recently appointed Acting Chief of the Department and strives to assist all members of HPD to develop their skills and meet their long-term goals while also implementing strong community engagement. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Psychology.
